- For his first time, Democratic Republic of Congo’s contemporary dance Artist Chito Ahmese is to stage a solo show titled Bilembo.
- Hosted by L’Espace in Kacyiru on January 21, the production facilitated in closer collaboration with Goethe Institute Kigali, the production Bilembo is a dance poem, written by Chito Ahmese. It is a performance of acceptance that reflects upon the painful conflict between our own identities. What is my story? Who am I? A possible future, all at once an inner journey, a relief, a prayer, a trial, a cry of rage that speaks of the future, overcoming old fears. “Maybe we should just paint a future, a better one, just with bodies in dance ans trance, voices that tremble, words-movements of resistance.”
- This production follows 8 years of research on traditional Congolese and African dances, where after 24 years of living in DRC Chito bridges two worlds, two cultures and poses in a singular way the question of a “contemporary dance of African culture.”
