Isaiah Katumwa’s latest song collaboration with American Jazz legend Dave Koz is another proof of how African Jazz is capturing the international stand.

Dubbed Nsiima (Am Grateful), the 4 minutes and 40 seconds song holding an Afro Beat and Pop rhythm is of a gospel style. The jovial tempo, of Luganda language chorus meets and entwines with mellow Jazz works by Katumwa and Koz, seamlessly sailing through it, with unimaginable mastery.

Nsiima is off Katumwa’s Ten-song album entitled Dance Again(2021), which is his second.

The album currently out on Spotify, Apple Music and other online music stores comprises of other songs like; Smile On, Swahili Breeze, Home Away, Nkwagala, What is Love, the sun will Shine Again and My Prayer, which in compilation brings together the expertise other artists and producers like Darren Rahn and Adam Hawley all constitute a body of work, which by music experts has been termed as one of smooth Jazz with an African DNA.

Koz is known though selling albums like Lucky Man(1993), Off the Beaten Path(1996), The Dance(1999), Dave Koz and Friends; A Smooth Jazz Christmas(2001), Dave Koz: Greatest Hits (2010) among powerful sold-out world tour performances, all which have earned him a great name among the world’s phenomenal Jazz musicians.

“For 20 years I have been listening and watching my super hero Dave Koz…my biggest influence. I have no more words. I still can’t believe it. Thank you Lord for this journey,” Katumwa states.

This collaboration is another stepping milestone in Katumwa’s career following local collaborations and stage performances with musicians like Juliana Kanyomozi, Myco Ouma, Joel Sebunjo, Ganda Boys, Herbert Rock, Angela Katatumba, Hum Kay, Maurice Kirya, Mo Roots, Mitchel Katumwa, among others, to Congolese-Uganda based guitarist Charmant Mushaga, Rwanda’s Stellah Tushabe, on top of legendary international acts like Hugh Masekela, Manu Dibango, Angelique Kidjo, Jonathan Butler, Darren Rahn, Paul Brown, Julien Vaughn, Jonathan Fritzen, among other acts.

Having toured East Africa, and across Africa and the world through performances, Katumwa is undoubtedly East Africa’s most talented Jazz Artist, who has over time cemented firmer roots into the African Jazz music fraternity.

Throughout his musical experience, that incorporates entwines the saxophone, to African Drums, guitar and minimal African vocal intonation; Katumwa has emerged with a hybrid style, which he calls Smooth and Devine.
