Rwanda-
Breaking Ground, a Rwandan short film directed by Inès Girihirwe was recently awarded the Ousmane Sembene Award. This was at the 2021 Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF). The Award initiated in memory of Ousmane Sembene, a legendary African filmmaker, is given to outstanding breakthrough African filmmakers with outstanding works.
In October last year, the film held its world premiere at the 2020 American Film Institute Fest (AFIFEST). Produced by Rwanda’s Imitana Productions through the ‘Power in Constraints’ film production workshop, which took place in Kigali early last year, this film is Girihirwe’s debut project, which further hit the international scene.
