Afro-Jazz female musician Somi is the awaited act to grace Rwandan stages in a live Jazz rendition. The US-based songstress, together with her band is perform at Kigali Marriott Hotel on February 13.
This is part of her East African tour, following her conclusion of Nairobi, and Zanzibar’s Sauti za Busara. Since 2oo3, when she embarked on a professional career, this is to be Somi’s unique stage appearance back home in Rwanda, which she looks forward to,
“Am really looking forward to sharing my music with Rwanda, since it has been so long,” she explains.
With an African touch, Somi’s music also holds the African feel, which she takes pride in. She defines herself as chosen by the genre.
“Its the Art, which chooses you. I never set up to be a Jazz singer, but realized how all the time people used to talk about Jazz. Its everything that isn’t in the mainstream though, but I prefer Jazz because we are always defining ourselves while on stage, and its a great space of freedom,” she explains.
To Eric Kirenga of AFROGROOV, one of the organizers of this event event, its of great opportunity hosting Somi, who is to share quality art. This concert is made possible by Mutzig Beer, Rwandair, Positive Productions and Kigali Marriott Hotel.
