Ugandan Singer and Actress Hellen Lukoma has been nominated in the 2017 Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television Arts (BEFFTA) awards under Best African Actress category. Under this category, Lukoma who is currently in New York will be competing with renowned African actresses as Eniola Badmus, Joselyn Dumas, Wema Sepetu, Diane Parish and Mercy Johnson Okojie.

Aimed at honoring the best entertainment, showbiz, leadership and sports personalities globally, BEFFTA is now its 9th year of bringing together diverse talent. Lukoma who said she was “excited” and “grateful” for the “recognition of her efforts as an actress” has featured in TV shows like Beneath the Lies , The Hostel, Last King of Scotland and lately The Honorables, a new Tv series among other motion pictures.

The award ceremony always packed with Africa’s Crème de la Crème has previously awarded timeless achievers like Didier Drogba, Waris Hussein of BBC series “Dr. Who” to mention just a few. This, it should be recalled, is not the first time a Ugandan artist is nominated; musician Khalifah Aganaga was last year nominated for Best International Male African Act.
