Bringing together artists; Saad Lukwago, Safina Kimbokota and Jude Kasagga, these present the results of their 3-month residency at Brush Tu Art Studio, the event sponsored by the Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi.

Lukwago’s current body of works is inspired by how beings relate with each other and the environment they are in. The work is a result of him trying to understand the many aspects of his life and indeed the lives of others… He has for the last couple of months been looking at similarities and differences between places, people, cultures, name it.

On the other hand, Kimbokota, a contemporary sculptor associated with Nafasi Art Space in Tanzania and a Master of Arts student at University of Dar-es-Salaam, showcases metallic sculptures that she has skillfully mixed with fabric. Her figurines highlight social pressures facing young women in Africa thereby encouraging campaigns against harmful skin creams and health-care rights.

A Ugandan artist that has been active for the last one and a half decades, Kasagga is first a teaching artist, who more recently ventured into a full time professional artist. He is trained as a painter, illustrator and sculptor although he is better known a painter at the moment. His peculiar style of painting that has been associated with the Surrealist movement has stamped his signature as a painter with a penchant for depicting subjects in the other world.
